Job Summary

PGCS, a subsidiary of Brown & Brown, Inc., is seeking an experienced liability claims specialist to administer all lines of liability claims for PGCS customers pursuant to company and state regulations. In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for the investigation, determination and evaluation of coverage, liability and damages, and the setting of proper reserves as well as the prompt, accurate investigation of liability claims. The candidate will also be responsible for the effective handling of subrogation and reimbursement for liability claims, aggressively pursuing recoveries in accordance with liability assessments. Independent decision making and a high level of discretion and judgment in regard to the claim handling function is required.  Opportunity to work from home for the right candidate.

Essential Duties:

  • Analyze the claims exposure, to determine the proper course of action and to appropriately settle the claim, evaluating evidence by interpreting facts within applicable legal framework to determine liability and claim value.
  • Prompt, accurate investigation of liability claims, interviewing all relevant parties to determine the facts and to establish liability; handled to final resolution.
  • Interact extensively with various parties involved in the claim process.
  • Develop settlement/litigation/defense strategy by evaluating factual information to settle claims in a cost-effective manner, working with defense attorneys as necessary.
  • Handle claims consistent with client and company policies and procedures and also in accordance with any statutory, regulatory and ethics requirements.
  • Document and communicate all claim activity timely and effectively and in a manner which supports the outcome of the claim file in an accurate and timely manner in accord with established procedures
  • Utilize a system diary system effectively and appropriately and keep the diary current.
  • Identify and notify responsible third parties of their potential exposures, handling subrogation and reimbursement on liability claims.
  • Examine and address reserves for accuracy.
  • Attend mediations, arbitrations or trials as needed.
  • Properly handle status reports/claim reviews with clients; travel as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of law and statute, maintain CEUs and active state license in which handling claims.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of three years in a liability claims handling environment (FL)
  • Commercial lines property, general liability, auto liability, physical damage and bodily injury claims experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of accepted industry standards and practices.
  • Ability to successfully negotiate the settlement and disposition of claims, including the ability to interpret related documentation.  Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and related claims and business software.
  • Experience to effectively handle mediations, claim reviews, status meetings with clients on a regular basis.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written; good customer service skills.
  • Assertive self-starter with excellent organizational skills.  Team player with good attendance.
