Beecher Carlson, a part of Brown & Brown, Inc. is a large account risk management broker looking for strong team players to join the International Captive Practice. Beecher Carlson is one of the largest and most awarded captive managers in the world, specializing in innovative captive management and consulting solutions. 

We are currently seeking motivated, organized and ambitious individuals to join our captive management and consulting team. We have multiple positions and roles available.

The ideal candidate for a captive management position will have experience in an accounting environment. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of captive insurance companies acting as focal contact person with our clients and team leadership, with an opportunity to develop strategic and consulting skills.

The ideal candidate for this consulting position has experience in the captive industry and a background in finance and/or accounting. The candidate for this position should be well-organized and motivated to learn and grow as our captive practice is an integral part of Beecher Carlson and Brown & Brown as a whole. The Captive Practice is a focal point within our overall organization for innovation and strategic consulting. This position has the potential to develop into a client/prospect facing position with some travel.

The Captive Management position will report to the respective office leader with responsibilities, including but not limited to: 

  • Performing all accounting necessary for maintaining captive clients, including preparing all general ledgers, reconciliation, and customized financial and managerial reports
  • Preparing periodic financial reporting packages and management review for a group of captive clients under GAAP, SAP, and modified GAAP
  • Working with all service providers including, but not limited to auditors, actuaries, tax consultants, regulators, investment professionals, and bankers; acting as client point person to organize and coordinate all matters to effectively manage the captive clients 
  • Preparing all regulatory filings necessary
  • Regulatory interfacing with the necessary domiciles
  • Monitoring cash flow, prepare budgets and ad hoc reports; working with multiple accounting systems, including MAS 500, Biznet, and The Complete Package to prepare financial and regulatory reporting
  • Presenting at client meetings to review financial information
  • Providing advice on compliance requirements, investment regulations, and current accounting developments that affect clients
  • Attending training sessions, courses, etc. to maintain up-to-date skills

 

The Consulting position will report to the captive practice leader with responsibilities, including but not limited to: 

  • Preparation of application packages for licensure in various domiciles
  • Support for client and prospect presentations on captives
  • Preparation of periodic strategy memos for existing clients
  • Support preparation of feasibility studies for prospective captive clients
  • Attending training sessions, courses, etc. to maintain up-to-date skills
  • Tracking and management of all consulting projects

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 0-10 years experience in a position with similar duties
  • CPA or CA designation preferred but not required
  • Ability to find innovative solutions and use good judgment in accomplishing tasks with minimal errors. Must possess critical thinking skills
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships and function in a team environment
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers, including data entry, word processing, and spreadsheet applications. Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
