Marketing Underwriter

Job Summary:
Review and evaluate new and renewal Lawyers Professional liability applications for acceptance or rejection based on program guidelines and manuals, as well as provide advanced customer service functions to ensure that customers receive efficient, knowledgeable and courteous service. Maintain contact with agents concerning status and answer various coverage questions and concerns from agents. Manage the productivity of accounts quoted. Participate in marketing efforts of the program and relationship building with agents.
Required Competencies:
• Work closely with assigned agents and brokers to continuously ensure that the agent is aware of risk appetite, meets premium expectations and has a favorable hit ratio on submissions and profitable book performance.
• Develop and maintain regional agency and client relationships through regular dialog.
• Underwrite accounts, sell to agents, negotiate price and decline submissions, which do not meet company standards.
• Price and sell/retain acceptable risks.
• Participation in underwriting guideline enhancements (on-going).
• Requires a comprehensive understanding of policy form and structure for various types of insurance, specifically professional liability
• Ability to read, interpret, explain or verify specific policy forms and endorsements
• Knowledge of statistical and rating methods
• Requires effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of producers, customers and internal staff and exercise good judgment in adhering to business and personnel guidelines
• Team player who can develop positive relationships with outside agents and carrier representatives
Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience
